The last while

I have now been in Thailand for just over three weeks. It has been an amazing time! During the first week my team and I spent some time with team 2000 in Chonburi. It was great to meet friends that I had made last time I was here. We also had a couple Thai lessons. After Chonburi, my team and I got to spend some time in Chiang Khong (the place where we will most likely live after language school). We got to visit Pastor Kuhns and Pastor Sohns villages. We also got to check out the property where the training center is. It's a beautiful piece of land.
This is a crack that appeared in Pastor Sohns church after an earthquake that happened in Laos a couple of weeks ago. Later that same day as the earthquake, 9 of the pastors that were in prison were set free. Wow, does that sound familur? When I was told of their release I had chills run down my spine. God is still in control, even though this world thinks they are. The Gospel can not be stopped!
Some nearby waterfalls
Since we can't be at the Launguage school till the 5th, I spent some time in the South with Rob and Judy and Operation 2nd Wave and a vision team that came from Ontario. I got to see what the area looks like now, two and a half years later after the tsunami. I have a much better memory now left in my mind. I also got to work with Ajarn Preecha. This man has such a hunger to see the lost people of Thailand reached for the gospel. I got to be part of a bucket brigade transporting concrete from the mixer to the slab that was being poured for a dormatory where students and missionaries could stay. I am in the red shirt
It was really hot the day we poured the concrete. This was the finished product. Now he will be able to finish the last building. Ajarn Preecha and his wife were so thankful that we came to help them them. It was fun to work with Ajarn Preecha and his wife again. I am sure there will be more in the future...

Now I am in Bangkok where I will be till we move as a team to Lopburi. In this next week I will be connecting with friends that I made last time I was here. They are great people, but they don't know who Jesus is. Pray that I will be able to share the reason why I am here in Thailand.

And now for a little Engrish

Grace

I want to thank you for your prayers. Since moving to Thailand this last Tuesday, I have been reminded of the spiritual darkness these people live in. I so desperately want to proclaim the truth of Jesus Christ.

Just before I sat down to write this, our team went to a temple here in Chonburi to see part of Buddhism that none of us have ever seen. In Buddhist folklore they have a depiction of hell. It was a struggle to see this hopeless existence. All around us were these statues of demons torturing people who did not have enough merit.
This was the caption for this display of hell, "Ones who make merit go to the heaven, ones who do bad go to the hell, plunging themselves into the hot copper pans and being stabbed by the hell-keeper with the spears every day."

In Buddhism there is no concept of GRACE. If you mess up, you are going to hell if you don't make enough merit for what you did wrong, and then with that merit there is no guarantee of anything good. I was reminded of the hope that we have through Jesus Christ who paid for all our sins, past, present and future, He is the only way to Heaven. He offers us Grace for the mistakes we have made by the blood that he shed on the cross, and through the resurrection!
Please pray for Thailand, I know that is a broad prayer request, but I know that Jesus can break through this lie.

"When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross."
(Colossians 2:13-15)

THAILAND

I have now been in Thailand for almost three days. God has blessed me so much with the lack of jet lag. I do have a bit of a cold, but so far, I have felt pretty good. Not to say I won't have some hard days, but so far so good. I wish I could show you some pictures of the area I am in, but my camera decided to kick the bucket the day I got here. So now it's at the shop and hopefully they will be able to fix it. For the first week and a bit, we will be in Chonburi with Team 2000. After this we will go to meet the Pastors in the North of Thailand. It will be great to finally meet these pastors who have given all to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
This Sunday, Operation Second Wave (O2W), our team, Hope for Thailand (H4T) and Team 2000 are going to be spending some time in prayer for Thailand. In the last few days as I have been observing, I have seen so much bondage. The newest thing here in Thailand, is people walking around with these huge medallions around their neck. It started from someone wearing a medallion and being cured from something. They also believe they keep away the evil spirits.
I am encouraged to know who the true healer is.

Today I got to hold one of the orphaned babies that were healed from aids. A while back, the new aids orphanage that was started by Team 2000 got two babies that were HIV +. The nanny, that was not a believer, started to pray to God, and fast. She said that if God would heal them, then she would believe in Jesus Christ. Well, God answered her prayer and she gave her life to Jesus. God also healed the other baby as well. Praise Him He is the Healer!

Waiting in Taiwan

Seattle Airport

After 13 and a half hours of flying, we landed in Taiwan where we are making our transfer to Bangkok, Thailand. Did not get much sleep and my legs were in so much pain because there was hardly any room, but that's all part of flying.
I have to say, the goodbye's were hard, but the great thing is I will see you again.

A three part Sunday (Part I)

Last Sunday morning started off really well. The sun was out and we had a great service put on by the youth of my church. Pastor Colin gave a powerful message on giving up everything to follow Christ. To give up the comforts of this life to bring people to Christ. To really seek after God in every part of our life. To obey what He asks of us. To put God first! I was greatly encouraged by what God had laid on his heart.

A three part Sunday (Part II)

After a great service put on by the youth, I headed home for lunch. My Aunt was down from Penticton, so we had her over for lunch. Bernie and Katrina also came down with the kids for lunch. After lunch, Zerick (my 5 year old nephew) asked Katrina (his mom) if he could go downstairs to see his uncle Jonny. She said yes and off he went. A few minutes later, we hear a blood curdling scream. I ran to the door and saw Zerick holding his head. At first I thought he got stung by a bee. As he got closer I saw the side of his face and looked toward the road. Then I realized what had happend. Zerick did not go downstairs but jumped on his bike with no helmut and got hit by a car. I went back into the house to see how he was and noticed a huge bump on his head and he was looking really bad. So I called 911, and the ambulance and fire dept showed up within a few minutes. Zerick started to fade out a bit and we had a concern that he would have a concussion. So the paramedics put a neck brace on him, put him on a spine board and then off to the hospital.
After intervenus, a chest x-ray and a brain scan, we were told that Zerick was ok. While we were waiting for the results, Zerick said to his mom, "Don't cry mommy, I'll be home soon, little boys don't belong in the hospital."
On Monday he also said to his classmates, "Jesus saved me, He just gave me some owies." I praise God that He protected Zerick. It was a good thing the couple that hit him was only going 15 km hour. Most people fly down my parents street. If the speed had been faster, I would probably have lost a nephew.
So after he came home from the hospital, later that evening I took him for the ice-cream I promised him, and praise God that I could do that once again before I leave for Thailand on Sunday.

A Three part Sunday (Part III)

The third part of the day was a great bike ride down part of the dyke with my friend Jon. A few weeks ago I had come across what looked like a new cave in an area close to the dyke. So after a short ride we went to check it out and see what it was. After climbing down a waterfall we approached the entrance and was quickly disappointed. The cave went in only three feet, but we still had fun anyways.
